Discussion of the Student Haneen Riad Hassoun

A master thesis entitled "Hydrogeomorphological hazards of the Zubaidat slopes east of Maysan, using modern technologies (a study in geomorphology") was discussed in the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah.

The thesis presented by the researcher Hanin Riyad Hassoun included four chapters (the natural factors affecting the slopes of Zubaidat in the study area, the analysis of the slope characteristics of the study area, the hydromorphometric characteristics of the basins of the study area, and the assessment of hydrogeomorphological risks and their impact on human activities in the study area).

The thesis aims at introducing the study area, presenting and analyzing the problem of hydrogeomorphological risks on the slopes, studying and analyzing the slope characteristics, as well as studying the hydromorphometric risks of the basins of the study area.

The thesis concluded :

1- The study revealed that the geological structure of the Zubaidat area is located within the unstable range within the Hamrin belt, and that these areas were affected by tectonic movements that resulted in regular and irregular slopes that include concave slopes, convex slopes, and striations.

2- The study revealed that the terrain in the Zubeidat area is different, as the highest height (195) above the sea level is the parts of the study area, while the lowest (5) height above the sea level in the parts of the study area.
