Absurdity according to Abu Nawas and (The Biography of Mahal Ibn Abbad) two discussion panels in the Arabic Language Department

Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Majid Abdul Hamid Al Kaabi, and as part of its scientific activity, the Arabic Language Department began its new academic year 2023-2024 by holding two discussion seminars on Wednesday, 10/4/2023.

The first: Absurdity in Abu Nawas’s poetry, presented by Professor Dr. Yassin Azab, in which he discussed the phenomenon of absurdity in Abu Nawas’s poetry and how it was represented by behavior that ranged between intentional actions and others driven by the subconscious and turned into signs in his poetry. Absurdity was represented in three forms.

The first: Dealing with wine in a spiritual manner that reaches the level of holiness. The second is girlishness, which has become a substitute for women, and the third is disdain for ruins and belittlement of those who stop there.

The second: (The discourse of exile, directing the vision of exile, and directing the vision of the recipient, Al-Mu’tamid Ibn Abbad, as a model) presented by Assistant Professor Dr. Walid Mezher, in which he discussed the biography of Al-Mu’tamid Ibn Abbad, the image he attained, and the relationship between the biography and the image. The episode worked on reading narratives (poetry and news) and how they contributed to rebuilding The biography of Al-Mu'tamid to become Al-Mu'tamid in the popular imagination, not the historical one, as written in biographies.

The panel discussion was also attended by a large number of department teachers, and the two discussion sessions received wide discussions and responses from the audience
