An instructor from the College of Arts is participating in a virtual international conference on translation

 

Jassim Khalifa Sultan Al-Mariani, the lecturer in the Department of Translation, College of Arts, Basrah university participated in the international conference held by the Department of Translation, College of Arts, University of Wasit, under the title “Translation: New Narratives, Entrances and Varied Rewriting” for the period from 26-27 November 2020. The lecturer's paper is titled “The Social Consequences of the Distorted Image of Iraqi Interpreters after the 2003 US-led Invasion".

Al-Mariani referred to the role of interpreters in facilitating communication between the coalition forces and the Iraqi people during the 2003 US-led war on Iraq, and the Arab print media contributed greatly to distort the professional image of translators, as their news and reports ignored the terminological distinction, using a proposal preceded by Mona Baker (2005; 2006) involving the narrative theory in translation studies that investigates the roots, means, and potential effects of this misconception by analyzing various articles in national and international newspapers issued during the invasion
