In commemoration of the day of Dhad (an idiosyncratic letter of Arabic), a series of literary, scientific and epistemological activities start. On this day, the department of Arabic hosted the creative Basri poet Kadhim al-Hajjaj who recited in a poetic morning gathering some of his old and new poems recalling some of the situations and the dialogues that brought him into contact with some of the Basri poets and literati. He also tackled some aspects of his literary and academic career. On the same occasion, Dr. Adil Abdul Jabbar presented a brief account of the poet's works and his position among his peers in relation to the Basri and Iraqi people. In addition to that, the poetic transformations in his creative career were examined. After the poet had finished reciting his poetic pieces, the audience took part by negotiating with and discussing the poet about his poetic experience, the creative points in his style, his language and his poetic image. This morning gathering was finalized by rewarding the poet, Kadhim al-Hajjaj, with the College of Arts creativity shield handed by Dr. Abdul Wahid Ziyarah, the dean of the College Education for Women, who attended this ceremony. On a par with this, Dr. Hussein Falih was also rewarded by another shield in return to his support of the communicative coordination between the university of Basrah and the Union of Basrah
Poets.
