A master's thesis in the Department of Arabic Language at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah discussed (The effect of context in revealing misspellings and distortions in the commentaries on Abu Tammam).
The thesis presented by researcher Othman Ahmed Fadhel Bayin included (the first part, the correction and distortion in the narration of poetry, and it contains two chapters (the first chapter, a reading of the concept of correction and distortion, and the second chapter, the correction and distortion and the narration of poetry. The second part addressed the commentators’ reasoning from the context to correct the correction and distortion: and it contains two chapters (the first chapter: the commentators’ reasoning from the linguistic context to reveal the correction and distortion, and the second chapter, the commentators’ reasoning from the non-linguistic context to reveal the correction and distortion).
The thesis aims to identify the efforts of the commentators of Abu Tammam’s philological Hamasah in controlling and correcting the text of the Hamasah from the corrections and distortions, and the effect of the linguistic and non-linguistic context on that.
The thesis concluded many important results, the most prominent of which is that the commentators of the Hamasah had a historical precedence in philological practice, text verification and correction, and reasoning from the linguistic and non-linguistic context on that.
