Defense Session of Dhuha Ja'far Hindi, a Student

Tuesday morning on 29/12/2020, the master thesis entitled "Poetic Tale in the Modern Iraqi Children  Literature: Selected Samples" was defended in the Department of Arabic at the College of Arts.

The thesis presented by the Student Dhuha Ja'far Hindi consisted of three chapters. The first chapter dealt with the semantic implications of the poetic tale. The second explored  the cultural references of the poetic tale; whereas the third chapter examined the narrative structure of the poetic tale.

This thesis discussed the manner by which the poetic tale transferred from the west to the east and then to Iraq. It also showed the methods used by poets to convey the semantic implications to children as well as the references employed by them to be naturalized inside children and to influence them as role models to be followed.

The thesis aimed at considering children literature more seriously as a kind of poetry having its own structure and language addressed to a receiver who has not been paid attention to by critics. It also addressed the cultural references making this poetry in its narrative form and the manner by which its fictional structure was formed.

This thesis concluded that the poetic tale is basically a western product and the Arabs were influenced by it via translation and excelled in it. It flourishes in Iraq in the seventh decade of the 20th century due to the spread of children magazines. It differs from the poetic tale of adults by being shortened, dancing rhythm and light meters. Though it is of different forms, it targets the sound education of children via various cultural references used for this purpose in simplified narrative structures.
