On Sunday, December 7, 2025, the College of Arts at the University of Basrah organized a scientific seminar that addressed Zionist expansion at the expense of Syria after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
The seminar aimed to address:
Internal transformations in Syria and the reasons for the fall of the regime, the Zionist strategy towards Syria after the fall of the regime, and finally the repercussions of the fall of the Syrian regime on regional balances and the Arab role.
The seminar was presented by a number of professors from the Department of History, namely (1. Prof. Dr. Nazim Rashm Ma’touq. 2. Asst. Prof. Dr. Ahmed Abdul Sattar Kati’. 3. Dr. Fadhil Abdul Rahim) and the seminar was moderated by (Asst. Prof. Dr. Muhannad Abdul Aziz Issa).
The seminar concluded with several important recommendations, including:
1- Calling for opening the field to academics and research centers to study the experience of the fall of the regime and to draw political and historical lessons from it.
2- Emphasizing the importance of documenting the fall of the regime as a pivotal event in contemporary Syrian political history, and collecting testimonies and documents before they are lost.
