

A PhD dissertation in the Department of History, College of Arts, University of Basra, examined “The History of the Arabs Before Islam in the Works of Al-Jahiz.”
The dissertation submitted by the researcher Ali Mohsen Thajeel consisted of four chapters: (a study of Al-Jahiz’s biography and his sources on the history of the Arabs before Islam; a study of social life among the Arabs before Islam in the works of Al-Jahiz; a study of the political and economic aspects of Arab life before Islam mentioned by Al-Jahiz in his writings; and a study of religious and intellectual life among the Arabs before Islam in the works of Al-Jahiz).
The dissertation addressed the study of Al-Jahiz’s works as a source for the history of the Arabs before Islam, as Al-Jahiz is considered one of the writers who paid great attention to transmitting news, events, and narratives about the Arabs before Islam, frequently mentioning them in his various works.
