

The Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts, University of Basrah, organized its eighth scientific seminar entitled “Readings on Environmental Changes of the Shatt al-Arab River,” with the participation of a distinguished group of academics and specialized researchers.
The seminar, delivered by Professor Dr. Shukri Ibrahim Al-Hassan and Dr. Khulood Kazem Khalaf, included five research contributions addressing the most significant environmental changes affecting the Shatt al-Arab. It also presented several scientific proposals to tackle issues of pollution and salinity impacting the river.
The seminar concluded with a set of recommendations, the most important of which is emphasizing the need for continuous environmental monitoring of the Shatt al-Arab by relevant authorities, as well as intensifying scientific studies and research to analyze these changes and assess their environmental implications, contributing to effective and sustainable solutions.
