In a ceremony filled with pride and admiration, the conference hall of the College of Arts at the University of Basrah hosted, on Tuesday (14/4/2026), a book signing event for “Ajramou” by student Zain Al-Abideen Imad Yasser from the Department of History, one of the creative students with special needs.
The event was organized by the Unit for Talented Individuals in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit, in the presence of the Dean, Professor Dr. Majid Abdulhamid Al-Kaabi, the Administrative Assistant, Professor Dr. Mohammed Abdul-Kadhim Al-Khafaji, along with faculty members, students, and a number of intellectuals and literature enthusiasts who gathered to celebrate the student’s achievement, an accomplishment that overcame physical challenges.
The book consists of short stories that delve into the depths of the human psyche, exploring inner conflicts and contrasting desires. During a discussion with Assistant Professor Dr. Ahmed Abdul-Sattar from the Department of History, the author shared his journey with writing, emphasizing that true disability lies in the mind and spirit, not in the body. This highlights that the college is not only a place for academic learning, but also a nurturing environment for talent and creativity.
The book was officially signed by the Dean, reflecting the institution’s commitment to supporting and integrating individuals with special needs in cultural and academic activities. The ceremony concluded with the Dean and the Administrative Assistant honoring talented female students for their active participation in art exhibitions, in cooperation with the Women’s Affairs Unit.
