A Faculty Member from the College of Arts Publishes a Research Paper in an International Journal

We extend our congratulations to Assistant Professor Dr. Qasim Faleeh Hassan Hamoud Al-ʿUqaili on the publication of his fifth research paper, entitled “The Muslim Arabic Dialect of ʿĀna in a Comparative Perspective,” in the Journal of Semitic Studies, published by Oxford University Press. The journal is indexed in Clarivate and ranked within the first quartile (Q1) in Scopus.

The study compares the contemporary Arabic dialect spoken by the Muslims of Ana with the Jewish dialect formerly spoken in the city, in light of the demographic transformations that have affected its linguistic landscape. The findings revealed a significant degree of similarity between the two dialects, while showing less similarity with the dialects of other cities along the Euphrates River.
