The Central Library at the University of Basrah Organizes a Training Course on Descriptive Cataloging

 

The Central Library at the University of Basrah organized a four-day training course on 19/4/2026, in cooperation with the Department of Information and Knowledge Technologies, as part of its efforts to develop professional skills in the field of library and information sciences.

The course was entitled: “Organizing Information Resources in Descriptive Cataloging in Libraries,” and addressed scientific and practical themes aimed at enhancing the efficiency of staff in organizing and cataloging information resources according to the latest approved standards.

The course was delivered by Professor Dr. Amal Abdul Rahman, Head of the Department of Information and Knowledge Technologies, and Lecturer Tariq Taha Abboud, Rapporteur of the Department of Information and Knowledge Technologies. They presented a series of specialized lectures focusing on methods of descriptive cataloging and organizing information resources, while highlighting practical applications within library environments.

The course also included interactive sessions and practical exercises that contributed to developing participants’ skills and provided opportunities for exchanging expertise in this vital field.

This activity comes within the University of Basrah’s ongoing efforts to enhance the capabilities of its academic and administrative staff in line with the requirements of scientific and technological advancement.
