Professor Dr. Jassim Khalifa Sultan Al-Maryani, a faculty member in the Department of Translation at the College of Arts, participated in the discussion of the master’s thesis entitled: “Translating Emotion Metaphors in the Dubbed Animated Film (Coco)” submitted by researcher Reem Alaa Hamdaqa from the College of Arts at the Islamic University of Gaza, on Thursday, 30/4/2026, via Zoom.
The thesis explored the mechanism of translating English metaphors into Modern Standard Arabic and the Egyptian dialect. It also identified the translation strategies employed, particularly the conflict between domestication and foreignization, concluding that the Egyptian dialect tends to use domestication, while Modern Standard Arabic adopts foreignization.
The study results highlighted the importance of cultural context in shaping metaphor translation strategies, contributing to a deeper understanding of how emotional and narrative consistency is achieved in audiovisual translation across languages and dialects.
