Under the patronage of the Dean of the College of Arts, Professor Dr. Majid Abdul Hamid Al-Kaabi, and under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Scientific Affairs and Postgraduate Studies, Professor Dr. Haider Abdul Ridha Al-Tamimi, and the Head of the Department of Translation, Professor Zaineb Sami Hawel, the Department of Translation at the College of Arts / University of Basrah organized a scientific workshop entitled: “Zaban-e Jang dar 1405 H.S.: The Persian Language as the Language of War in 2026,” presented by Assistant Lecturer Shahad Rahim Maktoof on Wednesday, 22/4/2026, in one of the department halls.

The lecturer addressed the most prominent military vocabulary and terminology used by ministers of the Islamic Republic of Iran and wartime media during the American-Iranian war to establish them as fundamental terms in official discourse. She also explained how these themes transformed official spokespersons into language instructors through the repetition of such terminology. The workshop further included the presentation and analysis of several video clips featuring speeches by Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and the spokesperson of the Khatam al-Anbiya Headquarters, Zolfaghar Ebrahimi, enabling translators and researchers to understand the structure of contemporary Iranian wartime discourse and analyze its linguistic and political implications within the context of the year 1405.
