Assistant Professor Dr. Hassan Majid Ahmed, a faculty member in the English Department at the College of Arts, University of Basrah, participated as a member of the scientific committee for the master's thesis defense submitted by student Ahmed Ibrahim Ismail at the College of Education for Humanities. The thesis was titled:
“Elegy as a Form of Historical Reclaiming: Memory, Erasure, and the African American Past in the Poetry of Tracy K. Smith.”
The study concluded that elegies in the poetry of Tracy K. Smith transcend the representation of individual loss and grief, becoming a poetic strategy for reclaiming marginalized African American memory, resisting historical erasure, and re-examining dominant narratives.
This participation comes within the framework of the contributions of the faculty members of the College of Arts to supporting graduate studies programs and strengthening academic cooperation among the colleges of the University of Basrah, thereby contributing to raising the quality of scientific research and the educational process.
