A Lecture About Loss and Gain in Translation

 

Department of Translation, College of Arts, organized a webinar about loss and gain in translation.

Professor Kadhim Khalaf Al-Ali’s lecture is quoted from Susan Bassnett’s book Translation Studies.

The lecture discussed the question of sameness in translation which is unattainable between any two languages. Therefore, loss in translation should be compensated in a way or another. Also, Loss in the process of translation in inevitable but can be compensated by what is close in meaning.

The objective of the lecture is to address the deteriorated status of translation by correcting the misconceptions about translation in large segements of society. In addition, increase translator’s awareness about how to respond to individuals who shed light on loss, neglecting gain in translation.
