In the department of geography at the College of Arts, a PhD thesis entitled "Geographical Analysis for the Health Map in Basrah" was defended.

The thesis, submitted by Sabah Sakban, included five chapters. The first chapter is an introductory approach with some population properties in Basrah. The second examined the historical development for the health map in Basrah. In the third chapter, the special distribution for the health system in Basrah. The fourth chapter examined the health state there. In the fifth one, according to the health services efficiency, the health map in Basrah was examined.

This study aimed at presenting the changes in the health condition for the population via identifying the different diseases spread and the extent of the availability of health care and drawing a health map for the special distribution for some of chronic and transmissible diseases as well as showing their distribution and contrast.

The researcher recommended for the necessity of maintaining the health system in Basrah which suffers from the lack of infrastructure such as hospitals. Human resources are also lacking like doctors and nurses. In addition, it is also necessary to review the special distribution for the health care to be fair enough.
