University of Basrah organizes a seminar on (Philosophy of Mind)

The Department of Philosophy in the College of Arts at University of Basrah organized a seminar on (Philosophy of Mind... Essence and Subjects) for the Assistant lecturer Ali Abbas Dahr.

The seminar aimed to shed light on the philosophy of mind, which in the contemporary period is gaining great importance among philosophical studies, and even though the philosophy of language was one of the most important philosophies in the twentieth century, at the end of that century research turned towards philosophy of mind.

Philosophy of mind is a branch of philosophy that studies the nature of the mind, the mental functions and characteristics, the issue of consciousness and its relationship with the brain. There were questions such as what is the mind? and is thinking one of the features of the physical matter? or is it a product of the brain’s stimulation of nerves?, and other minds related questions.

Since the physical model is the present, many doubts have been raised about the abstract existence of the mind, thus contradicting the well-known dualism between the mind (soul) and the body. So trends appeared, such as behavioral, functional, arithmetic and phenomenological trends and finally Searle's writings on this subject.
