Discussion of the Student Iman Taha Abdul Hassan’s Thesis

On Wednesday morning, 5/1/2022, a master thesis entitled “Geographical Dimensions of Respiratory Diseases” was discussed in the Department of Geography and Information Systems for the period 2014-2019.

The thesis presented by the student Iman Taha Abdul Hassan included four chapters. The first chapter dealt with the theoretical introduction to the study and included the methodological contexts in terms of the justifications for the study, the size of the problem and the hypothesis. The second chapter discussed the temporal dimensions of the diseases under study by discussing the annual and seasonal changes in them and referring to the factors affecting the spread of diseases. The third chapter dealt with the spatial dimensions of respiratory diseases in the governorate, while the fourth chapter referred to the demographic dimensions of those infected with the diseases under study, as well as dealing with some of the subjective and behavioral characteristics of those with respiratory diseases.

The thesis aims to identify the geographical pattern of respiratory diseases in Basrah Governorate and analyze the geographical factors causing and affecting it through:

 

a.  Classification of these diseases according to medical and geographical bases.

B.  Analyze annual and seasonal temporal changes for these diseases.

c.  Analyze spatial variations at the level of administrative units and come up with patterns.

d.  Determining and discussing the factors affecting the geographical patterns of these diseases.
