On Thursday 10/3/2022, the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts / University of Basrah organized a symposium entitled (The Pillars of the Scientific Research System and its Relation to the Context and Quality of Solid Geographical Research).
The symposium, presented by the instructor, Dr. Nadia Nouri Ali, aims to develop scientific research curricula, especially (solid geographical research) with all its scientific and methodological requirements carried out by the scientific researcher at all scientific levels.
The symposium included several topics, the most important of which are the scientific pillars, curricula, and scientific and geographical research trends in all common natural and human geographical disciplines.
At the symposium, the researchers called for:
1- The necessity of adhering to the ethics of scientific research as it is one of the most important pillars of scientific research.
2- Activating software that detects scientific plagiarism in research and university theses.
3- The necessity of obligating scientific journals to follow up on researchers to amend the observations confirmed by the scientific assessors.
4- Emphasising on applied studies for their role in determining the nature of the problems that societies suffer from, in a way that contributes to environmental, social and economic conditions.
5- Adopting the objective aspect in the scientific discussions of university theses.
6- Guiding students of postgraduate studies in the field of industrial geography to use mathematical curricula, especially geographic information systems (GIS).
