Discussion of the Student Sarah Khalaf Hanoun

On Tuesday morning, 27/9/2022, in the Department of information and knowledge technologies at the College of Arts, University of Basrah the higher diploma entitled (Classification systems used in the libraries of the University of Basrah: a field study ) was discussed.

The research presented by the student Sarah Khalaf Hanoun included four chapters. The first chapter devoted to the general framework of the research ,the second chapter was devoted to the theoretical aspect and included (the concept of classification, its importance and development, modern comprehensive classification systems, specialized classification systems and practical classification), the third chapter was devoted to the practical aspect, as it included several paragraphs, including (About the Libraries of the University of Basrah and the classifiers in the Libraries of the University of Basrah in terms of certification, specialization, and the years of service they spent practicing the classification process, classification systems, and methods used in the Libraries University of Basrah ) and the fourth chapter discussed the results and recommendations.

The Research Conclusion :

 1. All libraries of the University of Basrah use Arabized and modified editions of the Dewey Decimal Classification system dating back to 2012, with the exception of the library of the College of engineering, it uses an incomplete photocopy of an old edition of the Dewey Decimal Classification System, which is the eighteenth edition issued in 1971 despite recent developments in the field of Engineering Sciences, as well as the library of the College of law and the library of the College of Fine Arts use old copies of the same system .

2.. All the classifiers in the libraries of the University of Basrah are not aware of the existence of websites for global classification systems on the internet, including: the Dewey web classification system and Dewey web library classification system.
