On Thursday morning, 10/22/2020 at the College of Arts, University of Basra, an M.A. thesis entitled Assessing Interpreting Outputs of Students in Iraqi Departments of Translation, was discussed.
The thesis, that was presented by student Zakaria Yassin Musa, consists of five chapters, the first chapter includes the introduction and the second chapter examines previous theoretical studies of the main topic of the thesis. The third chapter discusses the thesis diagram and the fourth chapter concerns the practical experience. Finally, the fifth chapter focuses on the conclusion.
The thesis aims at developing a systematic evaluation of the outputs of the trained translators in the Departments of Translation of Iraqi universities. Here lies the importance of the study not only for the trainees but also for the trainers to determine their followed approach in the training of simultaneous interpretation and the foundations of this assessment can also be generalized to include institutions that concerned with training the non-academic translators.
The thesis is concluded with identifying the errors made by the trained translators in the Departments of Translation in Iraq and the rates of those errors in terms of breaks in meaning, imbalances and grammatical errors and analyzing them quantitatively and qualitatively.
