
As part of the requirements of the academic subjects in the preparatory year, the Department of Geography and Geographic Information Systems at the College of Arts at the University of Basrah organized a training course for postgraduate students (PhD) entitled (Laboratory Analysis Tools and Practical Practice in Geography).
The course, which was managed by Professor Dr. Amal Saleh Al Kaabi and the Head of Chemists Zuhair Ghazi Awad, included several topics, the most important of which were:
1. Introducing students to environmental analysis (chemical, physical and biological), its types and applications to the three elements of the environment (water, air and soil).
2. Defining the mechanism of operation of the devices in analysis, especially photometric, and how to measure and the types of parts of each device separately.
3. How to prepare a work map in the analysis based on measuring the physiological and chemical factors (PH, (E.C
4. How to take a sample and deal with it depending on the type and fertility of each analysis (biological and chemical).
5. Definition of other devices that support analysis, such as the digestion device and sieves (methods for separating soil components).
6. How to deal with the gaseous state (air) and know its components.
7. Training students to use laboratory tools and equipment in preparation for going out into the field and assessing environmental survey procedures.
